Robert E. Newel

Robert E. Newell, 81, of Lee’s Summit, passed away on December 12, 2010 at the St. Luke’s East Hospital.
Bob was born March 11,1929 in Wichita, Kansas. He served in the Korean War. Upon his return he entered the University of Kansas and graduated from the school of Architecture in 1958 and had a successful career as an architect until he retired at the age of 75. In 1956 Bob married Roberta Canada. He coached and sponsored Lee’s Summit Broncos and Mustang Softball teams in 1978 to 1982.
He was a lifetime member and Commander of the VFW Post 5789. He was VFW Missouri State Commander in 1999-2000 and remained active until his death. He belonged to American Legion, Disabled American Veterans and served on the Lee’s Summit Park Board for many years. In retirement he enjoyed working crossword puzzles, community activities and “Friday night dates” with his wife.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Roberta Newell; sisters Mary Ellen and Delores Metz; brother Raymond Newell; Nieces Suzanne Allen and Margaret Ann Hanritz; nephews Lawrence Allen and Ray Newell and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial service is Thursday, December 16, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Langsford Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior.
