Thomas Earl “Tom” Ford Jr., 80, Lee’s Summit, MO, passed away Monday, November 15th, 2010 peacefully at home after a battle with brain caner. Tom spent his childhood years in St. Joseph, MO, and Fort Scott, KS. He was a 1949 graduate of Fort Scott High School. He graduated from Fort Scott Junior College and Draughns Business College in Springfield, MO.
Tom was a Veteran of the United States Coast Guard. He served active duty from 1952 to 1956 and remained in “Ready Reserve” status from 1956 to 1960. He was also a member of the American Legion Post MO 1000. After serving his country, for which he was very proud, he went to work for Western Auto Supply Company. He worked out of the home office location in Kansas City, MO, as an Inventory Control Analyst and Buyer. He retired in 1996 after 40 years of service.
Tom enjoyed sports and spent summers during the 1970’s coaching his daughters and many other girls in the Raytown Girls Civic Softball League. He was a die-hard Kansas City Royals fan and supported them win or lose. He was also an avid KU JAYHAWKS Basketball fan. He spent countless hours supporting not only his daughters, but all of his grandchildren in anything they decided to do, including; sporting events, dance recitals, scouting events, and school activities.
One could say that Tom’s biggest hobby was working in his yard. He worked very hard and took pride in keeping a well groomed landscape with many features around his home. Tom Ford was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many. His patience, kindness, and sense of humor made his easy to like and love. His love for family and friends was unconditional, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him!!
He was preceded in death by his parents; Thomas E. Ford, Sr., and Alice “Louise” Boyer Ford and stepmother; Alice Cynthia Ford.
Survivors include Tom’s wife of 54 years; Dolores, daughters; Maude Gregg and husband Kevin, Lenez Hendrix and husband Keith, grandchildren; Sean Hendrix and wife Julie, Christopher Hendrix, Candace Edwards and husband Brian, and Renee Gregg, sister; Jeanne Story, brother in law; John Connell and wife Diane, also many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and countless friends.
A Celebration of Life will be 1:30p.m. Saturday, December 4, 2010 at Raytown Christian Church, 6108 Blue Ridge Blvd., Raytown, MO. There will be a visitation from 1:00 to 1:30p.m. at the church.
