That’s it. Just 20 seconds. This past weekend, I watched the movie "We Bought a Zoo", which came out in 2011. If you haven’t seen it, find it and watch it. It is a true story, highly entertaining, funny, heart-wrenching and feel-good. I’m no movie critic but I really enjoyed this one. I had seen it a couple of times before, but this time I watched it from beginning to end without much interruption.
"You know, sometimes all you need is twenty seconds of insane courage. Just literally twenty seconds of just embarrassing bravery. And I promise you, something great will come of it."
That is one of my favorite lines in the whole movie. Benjamin Mee (the main character) repeats this several times in the movie. He relates that these words (from his older brother) have inspired him throughout his life. They are good words, really good words. We can apply them to every situation we face – in times of triumph, joy, celebration, in times of doubt, sorrow or loss. When you are joyful or have something to celebrate – drop your inhibitions for 20 seconds – be courageous and share the joy. If you need to be lifted up – let your guard down and allow the Holy Spirit to protect you, to support you.
Ask for 20 seconds, just 20 seconds – that’s such a small moment but the possibilities are endless. If we approached life 20 seconds at a time, we CAN conquer anything! 20 seconds can change your life. You could meet your soul mate, diffuse a tense situation, calm an argument, share love.
