Be The Blessing, October 5, 2013

Sometimes the world we live in takes away our hope. Sometimes, things that happen overshadow the good in others. We hear about murders, rape, robberies, neglect, abuse, drug use, and all sorts of "petty" crimes. It seems like thatís all there is in the world. There are countless wars and civil uprisings Ė some of them are what is needed to fight oppression and tyranny. Others are so unnecessary, so evil, unfathomable. Thatís when we need to stop, take stock of our lives, pray to God for the understanding and knowledge of what we can do to make changes in the world. What can we do to improve our lives? What about around our community, country, the world?
Real change takes effort, cooperation, determination and faith. You may not be "the one" that can bring significant change to a situation. But together, we can make a difference. It might be as simple as mentoring youth, feeding families, being visible in our neighborhoods. It may be as difficult as demanding change in government, living as missionaries in somewhat undesirable places. We may need to educate people, to financially support organizations that can build infrastructure, economic strength and make leaders of our youth.
If you are a believer in God, then chances are youíve read the Bible. The Bible teaches us about hard times, good times, defeat and victory. We will all endure hardship and sorrow. We can have hope in the future. Make a conscience decision to do whatís right Ė Be the Blessing to someone and watch that effort spread.
