January 9, 2010 Dear Editor, I note with bewilderment Gov. Nixon’s recent item on these pages calling for campaign “comprehensive ethics reform.” As Gov. Nixon was busy writing his condemnation of large campaign contributions and committee-to-committee money transfers, he was depositing a $25,000 check from a political action committee to his campaign committee. This is reported on his ethics report dated 12/30/2009. Nixon’s mantra is “Do as I say, not as I do.” Nixon deposited many large checks in 2009 (a non-election year). He deposited $50,000 from AT&T, $35,000 from Anheuser Busch, $25,000 from Boeing, $36,306 from the Missouri State Democratic Committee, $60,000 from Kansas City Power and Light, $40,000 from union members forced to contribute in order to keep their jobs. And yet on these pages, Nixon claims to be a supporter of strict campaign contribution limits. However, Nixon reported receiving over $610,000 in contributions in 2009, every contribution exceeding $5,000. It is unfortunate that we have a Governor that has such little regard for truth on these pages. Bob Gough Lee’s Summit, MO
