Letter to Editor: Hope House
December 15, 2012
Dear Ms. Ahern,
I am writing this letter to make awareness for the call for donations to Lee’s Summit’s HOPE HOUSE.
Tis the season, not only for giving but it is the season for more domestic violence.75% of couples fight over money , between the recession, that we have been in for over four years and the holiday season, those numbers have grown A LOT.
One in four people will be in an abusive relationship in their lifetime. It does matter what race you are or how much money you make.
77% of domestic violence shelters do NOT have enough resources that they need to comfortably assist the men and women who have reached out for help.
This is true with Lee’s Summit’s very own HOPE HOUSE. They are struggling to met the essentials of food, coffee, sugar, blankets, sheets, pillows, and so, so much more. Lee’s Summits business could even donate a service; like changing some oil, paint a room or donate a haircut which would be welcomed with open arms.
Ms. Ahern, you would think that in a city as big hearted as Lee’s Summit, that there would be an abundance of donations, but HOPE HOUSE continues to have a greater need, that is grows faster than the donations.
I am hoping this letter brings awareness as well as help, not only during the Christmas season but each day, each week or each month, because domestic violence does not take a break. Sincerely,
Anthony P. Holt Eagle Scout Boy ScoutTroop 220
P.S. After I wrote this letter, a Chiefs player killed his girlfriend (domestic violence) before turning the gun on himself. PLEASE HELP!!! The need grows as the donations shrink…MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN SOMEONE’S LIFE.

I would love to have contact information. I don't own a business but would love to donate time .. Anthony mentioned "paint a room". I love to paint and would love to assist with this.
Nicely done Anthony. As a parent of a 220 Eagle Scout, it's good to see the troop continuing with great boys!
