Letter to the Editor: Health Care Policy, Not Politics

September 2, 2017

To the editor:

In recent weeks, some of our politicians have suggested that if the broken Obamacare law is going to be changed, the vote should be bipartisan. Whether partisan or bipartisan, though, political considerations should take a back seat to good policy in the discussion about how to make health care better in this country. Americans should not be forced to buy overpriced coverage they do not want, and any reform should leverage market forces to expand access to care and bring down health care costs. In substance, that means repealing Obamacare. Doubling down on Obamacare, even if done through a bipartisan process, doesn't get us there.

Make no mistake: Policy should sit in the driverís seat of the reform debate, and that discussion should focus on patients, not politics.
