Greenwood Elementary teachers awarded $1,000 from Lee's Summit Walmart

By Janice Phelanl R-7
Community Relations Director

Greenwood Elementary was recently selected for a special presentation through the Teacher Rewards Program, offered by the Walmart Foundation. Each local Walmart awards a school in their community 10 $100 gift cards for teachers to use in Walmart or Sam's Clubs.
The rewards are meant to help offset a teacher's out of pocket expenses for school supplies. Denise Powell and James Blevins from the Lee's Summit Walmart visited Greenwood Elementary Sept. 16 to randomly draw 10 winning names and to present gift cards to teachers.
The Lee's Summit Walmart is also Greenwood's business partner. In recognition of all the work teachers do to support students, the Walmart Foundation operates the Teacher Rewards Program. Walmart officials estimated that teachers spend more than $512 annually out of their own pockets for classroom materials and supplies, audio-visual aids and incentive and motivational items. Through the Teacher Rewards Program, Walmart and Sam's Club are providing more than $4 million to teachers across the country during this back-to-school season.
