Eighth grader, Jeffery Scarborough, has taken a unique approach to his Eagle Scout project.
Son of Randy and Christy Scarborough, Scarborough is working with Coldwater Pantry to create a website aimed to entice and increase the number of volunteers in the community.
"I started when I got home from scout camp last year around mid-July," Scarborough said. "Right now it’s at a stopping point."
Scarborough plans to have the website finished by the time he graduates high school.
Scarborough aims to entice people to help out in their communities by making it easier to find volunteer opportunities and rewarding ‘points’ and ‘achievements’ for the work. This game-like system will be jumpstarted by the Boy Scouts and local organizations. With proper social media marketing it could become viral and increase volunteering across the globe.
The bare bones of the website are underway but much more is needed.
Scarborough has set up a donation page through Indiegogo to help him raise the $6,500 needed. $500 of that will be used for DNS, business cards and $5,000 for the fully functional finished platform.
$1,000 was utilized to build the beta website which can be found here: http://jeffsconnection.com.
