Girl Scouts Learn Piano at Meyer Music

Betty Meyer of Meyer Music Company in Blue Springs decided to start a summer program for any Girl Scout 8 and up to take piano lessons for 6 weeks.  If they attend classes regularly, they receive a piano badge for Girl Scouts.

Mrs. Betty Meyer started the program only at the main store in Blue Springs.   The classes are open to the first 40 students that enrolled.  As Meyer Music expanded to the Overland Park Location and the North Barry Road location, this program has been expanded to include 40 Girl Scouts at Overland Park & 40 Girl Scouts at the North store.   Mike Meyer teaches the classes in Overland Park and Mitzi Meyer-Phelan teaches them at the North store.

Betty Meyer estimates she has taught 3000 to 3500 Girl Scouts to play piano since the program was started approximately 30 years ago.

Meyer Music is a family owned store with 5 first generation Meyers being involved and numerous second generations.   It was started in 1966 by Ted and Betty Meyer.
