Many of us donate our time or items to help those that are less fortunate, however, this past weekend the Boy Scouts of Troop 262 took it one step further. On November 2, 35 Scouts and leaders of Boy Scout Troop 262 constructed a box city in the parking lot of Summit Fair Shopping Center and slept in cardboard boxes to get a better understanding of what those without must endure.
For the second year in a row, Troop 262 held the Box City event in support of Project Warmth and then worked for three hours Saturday morning loading the Project Warmth truck at Summit Fair. In the afternoon, they then volunteered to work with the Salvation Army to unload all ten of the Project Warmth trucks from the Kansas City metropolitan area. When the day was done, they had helped unload seven tons of donated coats and blankets. Troop 262 has participated in this Salvation Army project for over seven years.
It was great to see the caring and hard working Scouts in action, as they performed a great service to our community. It was also refreshing to see the generosity of the people donating items to Project Warmth and of local businesses that provided food and supplies to the Scouts during the event. As winter approaches remember those who are in need and follow the example set by these fine young men. It’s not too late to help, contact the Salvation Army or other local agencies to see what you can do.
