Silver Beaver Awards 2009
By Shelly Monteforte/Tribune Scouting Editor
The Silver Beaver Award, first presented in 1931, is presented annually by the Boy Scouts of America and the Heart of America Council to a select number of individuals. The award is authorized by the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America and is the highest level of recognition a local Boy Scout council can bestow on a volunteer leader. Several areas of volunteer service are considered in awarding the Silver Beaver. Individuals are not only recognized for exemplary involvement in Scouting but also recognized for their leadership in other endeavors to make the community a better place for young people.
This year’s Silver Beaver recipients; Linda Christensen, Kenneth L. Fuenfhausen and Kenneth E. Nolan were recognized at the Heart of America Council’s Annual Recognition Dinner. This event was held on November 18, 2009 at the Downtown Kansas City Muehlebach, Kansas City, Missouri.
Nationally since 1910 the Boy Scouts of America has been the nation’s foremost program of character development and values based leadership training for youth. The Heart of America Council serves more than 44,000 young people through the dedicated work of 18,000 volunteers in a 19-county region in and around the Kansas City metropolitan area. Scouting’s sole purpose is to help young people succeed in life by enabling them to make ethical choices throughout their lifetimes. Click http://lstribune.net/scouting-news/ to read Kenneth E.
