Troop 110 Flag Retirement Ceremony
By shelly edwards | Scouting Editor
On Memorial Day, May 25, 2009, the Boy Scouts of Troop 110 performed a flag retirement ceremony. Over 30 flags were donated by the Hickman Mills School District and private individuals and were retired in a formal ceremony that was held at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church at Bannister & James A. Reed Road in Kansas City. The ceremony instilled citizenship and awareness of the Memorial Day Holiday and its meaning to the scouting program.
The Troop included two volunteers, CW03 Robinson and Gunnery Seargent Lockridge, who are active duty Marines from the Manpower Information Systems Support Activity located at the Federal Complex at 1500 E. Bannister Road in south Kansas City to assist. The community was invited to witness this ceremony as a tribute to both active duty and all veterans of U.S. Military Service.
There was socialization in the Church’s Ragan Hall after the ceremony where visitors talked to the Scout Leaders, Scouts and Marines and found out more about Scouting. Dave Schaad, Scout Master of Troop 110, said "This was a great way to impart citizenship and the meaning of the flag to the Scouts as well as supporting the community in providing flag retirement ceremonies." Troop 110 can’t thank the Marines enough for donating their time to the boys - scouting is all about the boys and building character and instilling values!
Troop 110 is also actively looking to recruit boys and adults to partake in the scouting program where outdoor skills, personal values and character are the focus. For more information contact Scout Master, Dave Schaad, at 816-767-1434.
Way to Go Troop 110!
