Troop 1262 Honors Eagle Scout Jimmy Harris
June 9, 2012
On Sunday, June 3, 2012, Troop 1262 in Lees Summit, Missouri held an Eagle Court of Honor to recognize Jimmy Harris.
James Andrew Harris, 14, was born at St. Mary’s Hospital in Blue
Springs, MO on January 19, 1998 to Neil and Cathy Harris. The family
moved from Lee’s Summit to Greenwood when Jimmy was 3. Jimmy attended
Greenwood Elementary where the music department helped foster his love
of music (which comes naturally to him). He joined both Choir and Band
(playing Alto Sax) and continued to Summit Lakes Middle School excelling
in both subjects and was a member of the Summit Lakes Singers this past
year. Jimmy will continue with his love of music at Lee’s Summit West
High School in the fall where he is enrolled in both Band and Choir and
will be a member of the Titan Pride Marching Band. At home, Jimmy plays
Guitar and Drums, coming from a long line of musicians on his father’s
side. This year Jimmy stepped in as drummer in his uncle’s band which
performs at charity fundraisers. Jimmy was recently asked to be on the
Parks Board for the City of Greenwood.
Jimmy started his Scouting
journey in 2005 as a Wolf in Cub Scout Pack 4262 at Aldersgate United
Methodist Church. He worked his way thru Webelos and earned the Arrow of
Light award in 2009. As a Cub Scout, Jimmy attended Bear Camp and
Webelos Camp. Once becoming a Boy Scout, Jimmy formally became a Den
Chief for the Cobra Patrol after attending Youth Leadership and Den
Chief Training in November 2009. The Cobra/Bat Patrol crossed over this
year with 18 boys and Jimmy is excited to share the “Bartle Experience”
with them this summer. Becoming a Foxman in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say
highlighted his camping experience last summer, and he looks forward to
advancing in the Tribe in future years. Jimmy has earned 35 merit badges
so far. He advanced to Brotherhood Member in the Order of the Arrow in
May 2011. He has held the position of Patrol Leader, Webmaster, and
Recruiter. He has also earned the World Conservation Award, God and
Family Award, God and Church Award, BSA Family Award, and the Year of
Celebration Award (5 ribbons).
Jimmy’s Eagle service project
consisted of tearing down old fencing, installing new electric fence,
and spreading limestone fines in the stables at Returning Glory Ranch in
Lone Jack, Missouri. Returning Glory is a horse ranch that helps at
risk youth, adults, and families find Biblical solutions in the
challenges of life through equine assisted services. Jimmy earned the
rank of Eagle Scout on March 7, 2012.
In his future, Jimmy plans
to continue Scouting and help younger scouts achieve their goal of
Eagle. Jimmy is looking forward to high school where he will continue
with Band, Choir, and Industrial Tech classes.
Jimmy would like to
thank his mom and dad, Lynn Houston, Travis Houston, Steve York, John
York, Martha Bowles, Chuck Dustin, Ron Bowles, Mark Klinkenberg, Jon
Ledford, Gary Van Riessen, and the other leaders and scouts that have
helped, guided, and encouraged him to achieve the rank of Eagle. As one
leader likes to say, “Scout On!”
