Troop 1262 Honors Eagle Scout Seth Harper

Troop 1262 Honors Eagle Scout Seth Harper

June 9, 2012

On Sunday, June 3, 2012, Troop 1262 in Lees Summit, Missouri held an Eagle Court of Honor to recognize Seth Harper.

Seth A. Harper is the 15 year old son of Wade and Karen Harper. He was born September 12, 1996. Seth is the 1st member in his branch of the family tree to accomplish the rank of Eagle.

Seth began his Scout career as a Bear in Pack 4262 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church. He was in Webelos for two years, earning the Arrow of Light in 2007.

Seth attended Camp Naish the summers of 2005 and 2006, and has since attended Camp Bartle, where he will attend for his sixth year this July. He truly loves scout camp and would never missed a day of it. He became Brave Son of Winter Snow Harvest Sun in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say in 2010 and continued to advance to Warrior in 2011. He looks forward to advancing to Firebuilder in the future. Seth is the great grandson of Hershal Harper, believed to be an Honorary member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say as a result of his involvement in the construction in building Camp Sawmill at H Roe Bartle Scout Reservation. His father Wade Harper is also an Honorary Warrior in the tribe.

Seth became an Eagle Scout on Aril 29, 2012. For his Eagle, project he worked with the Missouri Department of Conservation at James A. Reed Memorial Wildlife Area in the construction of 25 bluebird houses. The houses were to be placed on private property around the area to provide nesting for our state bird and to help increase their population for the bird watchers and the conservationists who study them. Seth studied the design of the houses, procured the materials needed, and managed the project. He supervised 20 individuals who were divided into three stations. The project began by 9:00 am and the houses were built by lunch time. Seth then delivered them to the Conservation Department.

Seth’s hobbies and interests, other than scouting, are music, swimming, theatre, and church. He has played piano since he was around 8 years old, but he is more recently taking up harmonica and guitar. Seth will be in Concert Choir at Lee’s Summit West this year and has participated in Titan Harmony Chamber Choir and the All-District 9th/10th Grade Honors Choir. He swims on the LSW boys’ swim team and has had roles in the school musicals all three years (7th - 9th grades). He attends Abundant Life Baptist Church and participates in the youth group as much as possible. His mowing business keeps him fairly busy in the summer-time.

Seth is very pleased to achieve Eagle rank and would like to thank the following: his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, his father and mother, Lynn Houston, Mike Morgan, and the older scouts who helped him along the trail to Eagle.
