The commemoration of the Battle of Lone Jack took place this past weekend.   Once again a big crowd came to hear and see the heartbreaking events that took place in the bloody years of the Civil war.  This year a trial took place where the Provost Marshall portrayed by Jim Beckner sentenced young men who left their posts during the battle to be shot by a firing squad.   The crowd was in tears, including the re-enactors.   Juanita Ambrose and her husband Roy played the parents of one of the young soldiers who were sentenced to death.  Juanita portrayed Ruth Hardin and Roy was Judge J.W.Hardin.

Another attraction at the event was a book signing by Lance Lee Noel.  Mr. Noel wrote a fictional novel that takes place during the Battle of Lone Jack. He used historic facts about children from the area who meet ghosts of children from the past.  Noel  it turns out is a distance relative of Jim Noel, esteemed member of the Lee’s Summit Historical Society, whose family members fought in the Civil War.
