Thanks go out for all the local support of the Dam Cancer Walk in Lakewood last week. There was a great turnout for the second annual event to promote breast cancer awareness and raises money for Bra Couture KC, a 501(c)(3) founded by Lee’s Summit resident and breast cancer survivor, Sharon Payne.

Attendees met at the Marina in Lakewood and walked across the Dam led by parade grand marshal, Suzanne Skinner who is 10-year cancer free. Jacob Lanier from Fox 4 News served as emcee for the event. Also on hand was Kansas City’s first mobile 3D mammography coach from Diagnostic Imaging offered mammograms.

Money was raised from a silent auction, raffle and donations. The exact amount isn’t known yet but it will be an impressive amount of money for cancer research.

Organizers plan to do it again next year.

Sponsor group, The Lakewood Ladies 50+ Club, is a social club for women ages 50 and above who reside in the Lakewood community of Lee’s Summit. The Club engages members in experiences to stay active, connected, and engaged in the community. The Club hosts monthly meetings, community dance parties, and events such as the DAM Breast Cancer Walk, concerts, and informative panel discussions on timely topics.
