The month of July is normally filled with camps and vacations for staff and players for the Kansas City Comets and Mavericks. Both teams have been making news this month for something else… signing players for the upcoming 2022-23 season.
The Kansas City Comets have already announced the return of midfielders Ramone Palmer and Nacho Flores. Coming to Kansas City is goalkeeper Steven Tekersky. Head coach Leo Gibson on the team’s latest offseason moves “trying to keep a group of guys around” adding “show them how much we appreciate them.” Both Palmer and Flores have signed a contract through the 2023-24 season. Comets fans can expect more signing announcements really soon as coach Gibson states “we’re working on it, it’s all coming together.”
The Kansas City Mavericks staff enjoyed league meetings that took place in Las Vegas, Nevada. The meetings took place June 28-30 just before a busy month of July got underway. The Mavericks have been busy here at home in Kansas City by signing a number of familiar veterans.
Forwards John Schiavo and Keeghan Howdeshell are just two of the players now welcomed back to the Mavs roster ahead of the 2022-23 season. Another forward who will be back is Loren Ulett now heading into his fifth season with the Mavs franchise. Defenseman Dalton Gally is also on his way back to town to play for coach Tad O’Had. Those five players will be joined by a few more signings expected to be announced before the end of the month. The 2022-23 ECHL season gets underway on Friday, Oct. 21.
