Saturday, July 20th, is the 55th anniversary of the first moon walk. In recognition of this space exploration milestone the Lee’s Summit History Museum has acquired a Smithsonian poster exhibit entitled “Destination Moon: The Apollo 11 Mission.”

On July 20, 1969, astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin E. “Buzz” Aldrin landed on the surface of the moon in the lunar module Eagle. Apollo 11 Commander Neil Armstrong took the first steps on the moon saying, “That’s one small step for (a) man, one giant leap for mankind.”

This exhibit will be on display at the History Museum for several months and is included in the normal admission price of $5, members and children 12 and under are free.

During the month of July the museum is offering a special admission price of 2 for $5 if you say you saw this in the Lee’s Summit Tribune or on Facebook.

The museum is located at 220 SW Main Street on the west side of the Amtrak station in downtown Lee’s Summit.
