The Lee’s Summit R-7 Board of Education conducted interim Superintendent interviews on Saturday, August 24th. As a result of the interview process, the Board of Education voted unanimously to name Dr. Emily Miller as the Interim Superintendent for the 2019-20 school year.
Dr. Miller has been serving as the Acting Superintendent since late July, upon Dr. Dennis Carpenter’s resignation. Dr. Miller has served as a teacher, process coordinator, Assistant Superintendent of Special Services and Assistant Superintendent of Operations in the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District. She will now serve as the Interim Superintendent as the Board of Education begins their search for a permanent Superintendent over the course of the next several months.
“Dr. Miller will work toward collaboration, equity and trust while focusing on student achievement. She will continue to work closely with our staff, parents and community to move our current initiatives forward and to further our commitment to prepare each student for success in life,” Board of Education President Julie Doane said.
“I very much look forward to the work we have ahead of us. From innovative practices, to facilities planning, to continuing to build trust, we have priorities and a mission statement that holds us responsible for preparing our students for successful futures. I know as a team we are up to that task,” Interim Superintendent Dr. Miller said.
As future decisions are made regarding the permanent Superintendent search, we will continue to keep our students, staff, families and community updated.
