United Consumers Credit Union president Chris McCreary has officially retired as the head of the credit union – but he’s not going far. McCreary has moved into the credit union’s executive vice president position.

During his tenure as president, McCreary made many improvements and updates by increasing branches and adding ATMs, debit and ATM cards, telephone, online and mobile account access, plus an expanded network of branches and ATMs.

McCreary is proud of the progress and improvements United Consumers Credit Union made while he was president. “We had two branches when I started, and now we have four,” he says. “Plus, we’re much more automated now.”

McCreary came to United Consumers in July 1993 from Wichita Boeing Employees Credit Union, now Meritrust Credit Union, where he served as chief financial officer. A Wichita State University alum with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, McCreary has been part of the financial services industry for more than 30 years, but first got his start at CPA firms.

Jay Neathery, the credit union’s former executive vice president, has filled the president position. “Our board of directors and staff – myself especially – deeply appreciate Chris’ service to United Consumers Credit Union and our members,” says Neathery. “I’m glad he’s staying on to help shape United Consumers’ future ambitions.”

A strong supporter of the credit union movement, McCreary served on the boards of Millennium Corporate Credit Union and indirect lending CUSO Credit Union Lending Systems. Locally, he serves on the Northwest Communities Development Corporation board.

“Chris served not only the members of United Consumers Credit Union…he volunteered his time and expertise to help other credit unions around Missouri and Kansas,” says Jared Fears, United Consumers Credit Union’s board chairman. “He truly believes and lives the ‘people helping people’ philosophy.”

United Consumers Credit Union has $167.7 million in assets and serves nearly 18,000 members. Anyone who lives in Jackson, Buchanan, Cass or Clay counties, or the city of Cameron, Missouri, as well as those who live, work or worship in Johnson County, Kansas, are eligible to join United Consumers Credit Union.
