City Of Lee’s Summit Asks For Public Input On Fair Housing

The City of Lee’s Summit will be conducting a public survey from May 15 through June 30 to help the City better understand the issues related to housing, housing choice and overall quality of life of its citizens, particularly those of low-to-moderate income and of protected class, in order to draft future goals and policies to address identified impediments to fair housing choice. Residents, developers/builders and mortgage lenders are all invited to share their experiences. All survey responses are anonymous.

To maximize public participation to ensure broad and unbiased representation, the City will make surveys available online as well as provide hard copies. The online version can be accessed through City’s website at http://cityofLS.net/Development and will be widely publicized on social media. Hard copies will be mailed to select residents and are available upon request by contacting the City at (816) 969-1600 or email [email protected]. The City encourages housing agencies, organizations and institutions, and housing equity advocacy groups to help with the community outreach effort.

Developers, builders, and financial institutions providing loans for development and home mortgages for homebuyers, play an important role in developing strong communities and neighborhoods and maintaining community wellbeing. The City also encourages these businesses to fill out surveys specifically designed for them by visiting http://cityofLS.net/Development.

Participation by the public in this survey is essential to help the City identify disparities in housing and prepare the Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing Choice (AI) report which is required by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and is a condition for receiving community development funds. Following completion of the survey, the City will make the results available to the public along with analysis of statistical data during the next phase of the study.
