For the first time this year, after numerous requests, Coldwater has added a trail ride option to its annual Crank Out Hunger bike ride fundraiser, which benefits Coldwater’s Food Pantry. The Food Pantry continues to see the amount of food insecurity grow as compared to years past with a 77% increase in visits since May 2022 and a 94% increase since May 2019.
Crank Out Hunger helps Coldwater cover the increasing costs of food to address these needs. The street ride begins at 7 a.m., Saturday, August 10, at 777 NW Blue Parkway in the north parking lot of Lee’s Summit Integration Campus. A half hour later at 7:30 am, Coldwater will kick off its first Crank Out Hunger Trail Ride, which is part of the Rock Island Trail. Trail riders will check in at Hartman Park (700 SW Pryor Road) at 7:00 am and the trail ride begins at 7:30 am. The trail ride is approximately 16 miles to Crane Brewery and back.
When trail riders finish the ride, they can rack their bikes and join the other street riders at the main location (777 NW Blue Parkway) for breakfast or lunch and music from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Aristo’s Eatery, Curbside & Catering will provide the food for the event. Breakfast or lunch and a Crank Out Hunger t-shirt are included with all $40 registrations. Registration is available through the website www.coldwater.me. You can also view the three street routes – 20 miles, 48 miles and 68 miles – on the website.
Raffle tickets are available when you register, the night before at packet pick up, and prior to the start of the ride on the day of the event. They are 1 for $5 and 5 for $20. Prizes include gift cards to bicycle stores and bikes.
The Crank Out Hunger sponsors this year are American Family Charities/Kristen Scholl; Bike Stop; State Farm – Jim Hallam; Julia Hampton, CPS, PC; Mascot Junction; Bicycle Shack; CSL Plasma; and RecoverRX KC.
