The deadline to nominate outstanding citizens for Lee’s Summit CARES Reflections of Character Awards is Oct. 10.
Lee’s Summit citizens have the opportunity to honor individuals making a difference within the community by submitting nominations for the Lee’s Summit CARES 2019 Reflections of Character Awards. Winners will be recognized at the 16th annual Lee’s Summit Mayor’s Character Breakfast, scheduled for 7 a.m. Jan. 24 at the Pavilion at John Knox Village.
The Mayor’s Character Breakfast and the Reflections of Character Awards program celebrate local citizens demonstrating strength of character in their daily lives. The awards program honors individuals who demonstrate and exemplify character traits such as perseverance, kindness, generosity, courage and cooperation.
Nominations are due Oct. 10 and may be submitted by visiting www.lscares.org/mcb.html, by emailing [email protected] or calling 816-347-3298. More information about the awards program as well as the highlighted character traits are available on the website. To be eligible for the Reflections of Character Awards, recipients must either live or work in Lee’s Summit.
The Mayor’s Character Breakfast is a popular Lee’s Summit tradition with approximately 700 people filling the Pavilion last January to hear a keynote speaker and celebrate outstanding character.
During the breakfast, stories about each of the approximately dozen Reflections of Character winners are shared during a meaningful tribute ceremony. Honorees receive their awards from the Lee’s Summit mayor on the Pavilion stage.
“This event is our opportunity to celebrate and champion the award recipients and demonstrate that we value outstanding character as a community,” said Rachel Nelson-Segobia, Lee’s Summit CARES director and host of the Mayor’s Character Breakfast. “The awards recognize everyday citizens of all ages and all walks of life who inspire others.”
Past winners have ranged from elementary-age children to senior citizens and honor individuals for a specific act of outstanding character, Nelson-Segobia added.
