The Lee’s Summit Tigers wrestling team was in action this week on the road and at home inside the LSHS Fieldhouse. Girls wrestling went to Belton for a dual along with Pleasant Hill and Marshall. The boys wrestling team was host to Belton on Wednesday, Dec. 4.
The Lee’s Summit Tigers boys basketball team will tip off their 2024-25 season against Rockhurst the defending district champions. The Tigers host the Hawklets on Friday, Dec. 6. The Hawklets come in off from a 68-43 win over LS West on Tuesday night.
The LS West Titans began the Kyle Lower era with a 68-43 loss on Tuesday, Dec. 3 against Rockhurst. The Titans travel to Springfield to play in the 2024 Arvest Classic a long running event in Springfield. The three-day event will give the Titans the opportunity to play three non-conference games. Another local team entered in the tourney is the Raytown Blue Jays.
The LS North Broncos open their season with a visit to the Phog Allen Invite being played in Independence, MO. The Broncos first opponent is slated to be Sumner Academy in what will be a three game three day event from Dec. 5-7 for the Broncos.
The St. Michael’s boys and girls basketball teams were in action on Monday, Dec. 2 when they were host to St. Pius X. The doubleheader began with the girls game at 6:30 p.m. The boys game followed at 8 p.m. The Guardians scored a 59-41 win over the Warriors. St. Michael’s Boys play host to KIPP Legacy next with a 1-1 record.
The Summit Christian Eagles stayed home to host a week long tourney inside the Eagles Fieldhouse. The Eagles will play three games in the weeklong event. The first girls game was against the Hogan Prep Rams on Monday, Dec. 2 where the Eagles won easily 54-16. The first boys game was on Tuesday, Dec. 3 where they played Christ Prep. The Eagles won easily 84-28.
St. Michael’s volleyball standout Katie Vargo was named to the 2024 KC Prep Dig All Metro Team.
The week long Winnetonka Invite tipped off on Monday, Dec. 2 and saw LS West Titans and Lee’s Summit girls teams competing for the title. The Titans opening round opponent was North Kansas City. The Titans scored a 57-46 win over the Hornets to open at 1-0 in the tourney with two games left to go.
2024 Otis Taylor Award finalists included Lee’s Summit Tigers WR Karsten Fiene and Lee’s Summit North WR Isiah Mozee. The Taylor award is given annually to the best wide receiver in the Kansas City metro area. Mozee on Monday, Dec. 2 was announced as the winner on KSHB-TV 41.
