Before Rick McKinley passed away from cancer, he asked Paula to promise to have an annual fundraiser to beat cancer. With that being said, VFW Post 5789 is holding the First Annual Rick McKinley Race For a Cure fundraiser starting at 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 31 at the VFW Post 5789 located at 329 SE Douglas Street in Lee’s Summit.

The fundraiser event will include a 50/50 Raffle, Silent Auction (donations are still being accepted), Mouse Races, Dinner and a Memorial Wall. Dinner is $12 and will be served from 4 to 6 p.m. Mouse race sponsorships are $100 or $25 to sponsor a mouse. Dinner is included with sponsorship.

All proceeds from this event will be split between Children’s Mercy and KU Med Center Oncology Departments.
