January 15, 1928 ~ November 7, 2019

Florine J. Van Tuyl, formerly of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at the age of 91.  Following the death of Harold, her husband, Florine moved to Florence, Oregon to be near her son and daughter-in-law.

Florine was born to parents Walter Lavern Schenck and Ruth May Hudson Schenck on January 15, 1928 in Mitchell, South Dakota.  Florine lived most of her childhood in Belleville, Kansas.  She graduated from high school in Nauvoo, Illinois in 1945.  

Florine earned an Associate in Arts degree from Graceland College and a Bachelor’s degree in Education from UMKC.

She married Harold Van Tuyl November 28, 1947.

Florine worked in photogrammetry at Army Map Service, taught swimming for the American Red Cross, and taught Social Studies at Raytown Junior High School.

Florine and Harold lived in Raytown, Missouri for 38 years.  After Harold’s retirement from Allied Signal, they lived in Belton, Blue Springs, and Lee’s Summit, Missouri.

Florine was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, and two sisters.  She is survived by her son, Steve, and daughter-in-law Donna; her sister, Chatharine Whiteman; and granddaughter, Stephanie.

A joint service for Florine and Harold will be planned and held at Willamette National Cemetery at a later date.
