The new year is off to a busy start for area winter sports teams as high school teams were hitting the court or the mats as early as Monday, Jan. 2. Monday night saw a pair of girls basketball games played with various results. At home was the Lee’s Summit North Broncos who outlasted Staley 47-42 to improve to 4-5 on the season. On the road was the Lee’s Summit Tigers who fell to Park Hill South 48-15.
Tuesday, Jan. 3 was a busy night on the hardwood for area teams. Lee’s Summit West improved to 6-4 on the season with a 49-43 road win at Liberty North. Lee’s Summit North played host to top ranked and undefeated Staley and lost 78-40. The Broncos are now 5-6. Both St. Michael’s boys and girls teams were in the win column on this night. The Guardians girls beat University Academy 67-31 then the Guardians boys took the floor and won easily 59-38 over University Academy.
Wednesday night saw all three LSR7 wrestling teams in action at home. The Lee’s Summit Tigers girls and boys wrestlers were host to perennial power Staley. The Lee’s Summit North Broncos was at home against Park Hill South. Lee’s Summit West met Blue Springs South inside the Titan Fieldhouse. The Tigers Boys Wrestling team came up short against Staley but will return to the mats this weekend. Tigers travel north up to Eden Prairie, Minnesota for an event on Saturday. The Broncos beat Park Hill South 52-19.
The Lee’s Summit Tigers wrestling team isn’t the only team headed out of town for some non-conference action. The Lee’s Summit West Titans girls basketball team is headed across the state to play perennial power Vashon High School in St. Louis. The game tips at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. Regardless of the outcome, road trip memories will be made.
