The 2024 Central Missouri Mules football team is coming off from an 11-2 season that saw them finish as co-MIAA Champions with Pittsburg State. The Mules return a wealth of talent from the 2023 team and that is reflected in the team’s current number two ranking in the NCAA D-II national poll.

The Mules kicked off the season against Northeastern State on Saturday, Sept. 7 and performed as expected scoring an easy win 63-21. Mules head football coach Josh Lamberson on the team’s first performance this year “so proud of our guys, really pleased how they came out.” Lambo, as he is called by fans, added this game is “just one step, continue to get better.”

The Mules feature a lineup that finds five players who used to play in Lee’s Summit. One of them is tight End Grant McAtee, a redshirt-junior, from Lee’s Summit West. McAtee is a backup who saw playing time throughout the second half. Lamberson commented “has been in and around our program since I got here.” On a third quarter catch “so happy for Grant, he shows up every day.” On another former LS West Titan, OL Boston Careswell, Lamberson states “does a great job.” Both guys show “the type of guys they are.” Careswell is a redshirt freshman this season.

Another former Titan is Jalen Lewis who has two numbers and two positions for this year’s Mules team. Lewis, a freshman, plays both OL and at TE for the number two ranked Mules. The roster shows Lewis is #62 when at his OL position and #91 when playing as a tight end. Lamberson on the two-way player “has a large body, is athletic” when describing Lewis who has been a part of the team since 2021.

Tamarian Cashier, a redshirt freshman defensive back, is a former LS North Bronco and another Lee’s Summit native looking to add to his playing time this season. Lamberson comments on Cashier “is athletic, has a bright future.” At running back is another familiar name to those that follow LSR7 teams that is David Mayo a redshirt freshman from LS West. As the Mules continue to play their way through the 2024 schedule fans back home in Lee’s Summit won’t be surprised to hear a familiar name or more that played a part in the team’s success.
