Sunday, August 4th, the History Museum membership will host guest speaker Loring Miller. Miller is a member of the Jefferson Highway Association Board. He will share his knowledge of the significance of this historic highway at the History Museum on August 4, 2024 at 2 p.m. Members and guests are welcome to attend.

The Jefferson Highway was the first major north-south international roadway in the United States. In 1916 the 2,300 mile route ran from Winnipeg, Canada, to New Orleans, Louisiana.

The marker pictured here shows the historic highway going through the heart of our community on Jefferson Street and on Douglas Street.

Prior to the presentation a plaque will be hung in the museum recognizing the many contributions of May Howard, Don Hale, Frank Graves and Kathy Smith in preserving the history of Lee’s Summit and their roles in creating the History Museum.

The History Museum is located at 220 SW Main Street on the west side of the Amtrak station in downtown Lee’s Summit.
