The History Museum’s permanent display honoring Lee’s Summit veterans is always an interesting area to tour in the museum.
In honor of Veterans Day, uniforms belonging to four local veterans will be on temporary display through the end of November. Uniforms from Marine Robert Myers, Larry Turkington (Air Force), Melvin Gardner (Navy) and Wave Isabel Jean Bear Fritchie are included in this temporary exhibit. Army uniforms worn by Dr. Clint Miller and by Hazel Hogg Mothershead are also on display.
A recently donated World War II helmet worn by Seebee veteran John Harvey Wilson and his story while serving in Iwo Jima have been added to the permanent display case.
The History Museum will further honor our veterans this year with free admission on Saturday, November 9th.
Normal admission is $5. Members and children 12 and under are free. The museum is located at 220 SW Main Street in downtown Lee’s Summit and open Thursday and Friday 12-2 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
