As we approach the 4th of July holiday this is a good time to remind all active military families that the Lee’s Summit History Museum is a Blue Star Museum. This is a nationally recognized organization. As an affiliated museum admission is free to active military members and their families from Armed Forces Day to Labor Day each year.
The History Museum is located at 220 SW Main Street on the west side of the Amtrak Station in downtown Lee’s Summit. The museum is open Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Currently on display is an exhibit celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Lee’s Summit Christian Church. The new Agricultural Exhibit is now complete. This exhibit highlights the rich history of family farms in our city. The contributions of these successful farms provided the backbone of the community we enjoy today.
Mark your calendars for a special old fashioned ice cream social celebrating Missouri’s 200th anniversary of statehood. This community event will be held Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2021 from 5 to 8 p.m. in front of the History Museum. This event is a collaboration with the History Museum, Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Main Street and other civic organizations. Please watch for additional information on this special event in the coming weeks.
