Incumbent Lee’s Summit District 4 City Councilmember Fred DeMoro announced this week that he is seeking a second term running for re-election as District 4 Councilmember in the upcoming municipal election on Tuesday, April 2, 2024.
Councilmember DeMoro commented, “My work is not done. I would like to continue to focus on the important projects that have been started during my tenure and see them completed including the implementation of city infrastructure improvements such as storm water modifications and the comprehensive planning and development of 4,000 acres of recently available greenfield space in Lee’s Summit.”
Councilmember DeMoro uses proven principled leadership and a collaborative approach in his decision- making process. DeMoro is a skillful problemsolver determined to bring people together while understanding difference of opinion will occur. He adds, “I’m not afraid to speak my mind and debate controversial issues, but at the same time I know that reaching a consensus and resolution outweighs getting nothing substantial done. I always stay open-minded on the issues and I’m not swayed by special interest groups. I will only consider those propositions that promote the strength and stability of our community.”
He also shared, “I am passionate about supporting our professional public safety, public works, and core employees and their families and I look forward to continuing my work with those professionals in our community to further strengthen retention and recruitment efforts and enhance competitive compensation improvements.”
For me, Councilmember DeMoro says, “maintaining and supporting capital improvement projects that support the quality of our community is of utmost importance. In addition, exploring and acting upon economic development opportunities that bring competitive and sustainable wages to our citizens is essential for future growth.”
Accomplishments during Councilmember DeMoro’s term include:
• Fire Station #4 replacement, land acquisition and complete rebuild.
• Fire Station #5 replacement, land acquisition and complete rebuild.
• Land acquisition for future station #8
• Sidewalk gap program, citywide
• Downtown Market Plaza, plan/design and construction
• Stormwater abatement, Vista del Verde, Somerset and Olive and Orchard St.
• US 50 and MO 291 North Bridge rebuild and interchange configuration, plan/design.
Councilmember DeMoro describes himself as a team player and will continue to work hard for the diverse constituency in District 4. “The residents of Lee’s Summit should expect and receive a government that is responsive and transparent. I support citizen participation and encourage public feedback while working to reduce the impact and distractions of special interest groups and their agendas,” he added.
DeMoro reiterated that he will continue to work closely with District 4 homeowners’ associations and community organizations to reach out and include the many concerned citizens of District 4 and mitigate constituent concerns on an individual basis while representing the interests of the entire city.
DeMoro is a 38-year Lee’s Summit resident and has served as a District 4 Councilmember for nearly seven years. He is a dedicated community servant and has been an integral part of the city’s progress over the past 13 years and his experience stands on its own. In addition to his own love for Lee’s Summit, he feels an obligation to leave the city better than he found it for the next generation, including his own family members.
DeMoro previously served as a Planning Commissioner for 7 years and as Commissioner on the 2016-2017 Charter Review Commission. As the current District 4 Councilmember, DeMoro serves as Chairperson of the Public Works Committee, Chairperson of the Legislative and Intergovernmental Relations Committee and as a member of the Rules Committee. He also serves as City Council Liaison to the Water Utilities Advisory Board and Public Safety Advisory Board, and as an Advisory Board Member for not-for-profit Hero Fund USA, and a member of the Whiteman Air Force Base Community Council.
