Motorcycle dealers in Missouri will finally be on a level playing field with their rivals in Kansas thanks to legislation signed into law Monday afternoon. Sponsored by state Rep. Mike Cierpiot, HB 1735 will allow for the sale of motorcycles on Sundays in Platte County and Jackson County.

Cierpiot said the much-needed change puts an end a law that forced Missouri dealers to work at a competitive disadvantage.

“Our motorcycle dealers here on the Missouri side have seen thousands and thousands of customers take their business across the state line because of the prohibition on Sunday sales. By making this change we can keep Missourians here in Missouri when buying their motorcycles and provide a real boost to the bottom line for Missouri businesses,” said Cierpiot, R-Lee’s Summit. “I want to thank the governor for signing the bill into law and ending what was an unfair penalty on Missouri motorcycle dealerships. Now we have true fairness and competition between dealers on both sides of the state line.”

With the governor’s signature, HB 1735 will now take effect as law on August 28.
