In a narrowed field against the top 16 high jumpers from across the nation, Carlie Queen put her talents to the test at the USATF Junior Outdoor Championship held in Clovis, CA, on June 24-26.

Carlie Queen, with her coach and father John Queen, placed 4th at the USATF Junior Outdoor Championship

During her junior season last spring at Summit Christian Academy, Queen hit the qualifying standard for the USA under 20 Junior Championship with a Crossroads Conference jump of 5’9″. This jump ranked her within the top five high school jumps in the country at that time.

Queen is a 3-time State Champion and State Record Holder for Class 2 in the high jump, and a Silver State Medalist in the pole vault, having earned All-Conference, All-District, All-State, All-Metro, and All-American honors for three consecutive years, all of which better prepared Queen for the national stage in Clovis.

Competitors in her event at the USATF Juniors ranged from ages 17 up to 20, marking Queen as one of the youngest on the apron among the more prominent pool of college jumpers. Queen competed strong with a 4th place finish and a season-best jump of 5′ 9 3/4″, the highest placement from any high school jumper in the event. Remaining medalists on the stand represented colleges from North Carolina, Purdue, Wisconsin, Mississippi State, as well as a Minnesota commit. Queen’s elite performance ranks her as one of the top six high school jumpers in the nation to make the 2016 All-American Girls Team listed on MileSplit USA presented by New Balance which posted on July 4th. The top two finishers of the USATF Juniors qualified to compete for Team USA at the IAAF World U-20 Championships to be held in Poland in late July.
