The only Missouri Maverick named to the ECHL All-Star game, Kevin Tansey, continues to outshine others in the league in this his first full professional season. “Tanser,” as his new teammates call him, is a left-handed defenseman who has quickly excelled on the ECHL level in the 2016-17 season.

Thanks to Kevin’s big red beard some teammates and Mavs personnel call him “Big Red.” Kevin hails from Hammond, Ontario, Canada. He has both parents and an older brother still there rooting him on from home. He is proud of his older brother who is a popular musician back home. His favorite pro sports teams are the NHL’s Montreal Canadiens and the Tennessee Titans of the NFL. Big Red admits he likes the Titans simply because of their uniforms.

Kevin’s favorite hockey memory so far was signing an ATO contract with Binghamton in 2015. Like any Canadian native he first put on a pair of skates at the age of three. If not in pro hockey today, Kevin would be working outdoors in some capacity. On those long road trips, he likes to play cards with his teammates and sleep. Yes, Kevin does cook and he loves BBQ. You can find him grilling if you spend any time with him at all.

Following his playing days, he wishes to be remembered as a hard worker and a wonderful teammate. Kevin’s favorite part of Kansas City is all in one spot, LC’s Barbeque. He loves their burnt ends among other offerings.

Kevin’s thoughts on being named to the ECHL All-Star game to be played on Wednesday, January 18. “It’s an honor, an awesome opportunity to play with others in the league and represent the Mavericks organization.”

Mavericks Head Coach John-Scott Dickson said of his 2017 All-Star: “A great honor for our organization. A pretty good player that’s going to represent our team. Tansey has earned everything he has got to this point.”

Check out this All Star with the big red beard when he and the rest of the Mavericks return to home ice on Saturday, January 21 to host the Quad City Mallards. The fun begins when the puck drops inside the Silverstein Eye Centers Arena at 7:05 p.m.
