One Good Meal had the beef, conducting a raffle which recently sold nearly 200 tickets for $10 donations to help provide a daily meal to Lee’s Summit residents for whom it’s hard to leave home.
It was the third annual beef raffle made possible by donations of the meat by Bud and Betty Hertzog, said Roberta McArthur, director of One Good Meal.

Roberta McArthur, director of One Good Meal, with her huband Jim McArthur, conducted drawing for a side of beef with minister Hans Koschmann at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Lee’s Summit. Ali Odom won the meat donated by Bud and Betty Hertzog in a benefit for One Good Meal.

This year Ali Odom won the prize Friday when the drawing was conducted for One Good Meal by Hans Koschmann of Martin Luther Lutheran Church. The church provides space for the agency to pack the meals to be delivered by volunteers.

McArthur said it was a busy week, also preparing for a fundraiser Monday at Jazzy B’s Diner and two upcoming events.

The agency is registering contestants for a Cocoa Bake Off, sponsored by the Cocoa Exchange which will be judged Oct. 14 at the annual ChiliFest. In the weeks before the judging, contestants will be given boutique cocoas and challenged to create unique recipes, McArthur said.

The agency also is getting ready for the .5K Walk/Run Oct. 7 at Harris Memorial Park. Participants, for a donation, will walk, hop, walk backwards, play hopscotch, and for their personal best times around the course get a pancake breakfast, she said.
