Making a difference in Lee’s Summit may be as simple as participating in 2018 Sweep the Summit Cleanup Day in our parks on Saturday, April 28. The cleanup effort will focus on three Lee’s Summit parks – Legacy, Hartman, and Howard.

Representatives from the Beautification Commission and Lee’s Summit Parks and Recreation will be present in each park to hand out trash bags and haul away the trash collected. The event will start at 9:30 a.m. in each park and continue until 11 a.m. At the conclusion, participants will gather at 11 a.m. and gift cards provided by local restaurants will be given for the most unique trash items recovered. Bottled water and snacks will be provided.

Trash bags will be provided, but participants should bring their own work gloves and wear sturdy shoes. Students from at least two Lee’s Summit High schools will be coming out to take part. Students supervised by high school teachers will need to turn in their permission slips to their supervising teacher.

Legacy Park is located at 901 Bluestem, and participants will gather at the Amphitheater. Hartman Park is located at 700 SW Pryor Rd, and participants will gather at the shelter house. Howard Park is located at 3498 NE Independence Ave, and participants will gather near the circle drive.

All residents are encouraged to clean up their own favorite places in Lee’s Summit to celebrate Earth Day if they cannot come to one of the parks.
