Wings Over Weston is a free and family-friendly. Wings Over Weston introduces birds, their migration, and the importance of conservation of habitat to children, the birders of tomorrow. Wings Over Weston is at Weston Bend State Park’s Bee Creek Shelter on Saturday, May 5 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Visitors will witness citizen science in action as state-licensed ornithologists band birds. Operation Wildlife and Raptor Rehab will have live birds for viewing. Additionally, more than 30 stations offer children and families an opportunity to learn about northwest Missouri’s migratory and resident birds. Stations include arts and crafts, face painting, building a house/feeder, mazes, games, guided bird hikes, and more.

Wings Over Weston is a Burroughs Audubon and Missouri State Parks partnership. What once started as a one-time event in 2010 to introduce the Iatan/Weston River Corridor Important Bird Area (IBA) to the public is an annual birding festival – the largest one-day birding festival in the entire Midwest with a unique niche – children. Weston Bend State Park lies in the heart of the Iatan/Weston River Corridor IBA which is an area identified as being globally important for the conservation of bird populations. More than 300 species of birds fly through northwest Missouri every spring and fall.
Everything, except concessions, is free at Wings Over Weston. Attendees can take home what they make and build. Everyone receives a commemorative bird band upon arrival and the first 200 children will receive a free poster. Weston Bend State Park’s Bee Creek Shelter is located 1/8 mile south of Weston Bend State Park’s main entrance at 16600 Highway 45 North in Weston, Missouri. Weston Bend State Park can be reached by taking I29 to exit 20 and following the signs via Missouri State Highways 273 and 45.
