Lee’s Summit’s annual Landscape Contest will feature a new category,

“Water Gardens, Native Plants and Butterfly Gardens,” as part of its efforts to make residents aware of the ecological benefits of these types of gardens. Because certain birds, bees and butterflies are endangered, there is keen interest in plants that require few chemicals and have a positive effect on their environment.

Other categories are “Before and After,” which requires submitting a “before” photo of an unsightly situation with the entry; “Front or Back Yard;” and “Patio/Container Gardens.” Applicants can get entry forms at City Hall or online at cityofls.net – Activity #900011.

Applicants may submit entries in only one category, and enter by June 8, 2018. Judging will occur the weekend of June 30/July 1.

The Landscape Contest is sponsored by the Lee’s Summit Beautification Commission. Its intent is to reward homeowners who make special efforts to beautify their property, and to encourage more residents to enjoy the rewards of landscape gardening. For further information, call (816) 969-1500.
