William Eugene “Gene” Wood, 84, a resident of Lee’s Summit, MO formerly of Lake Lotawana, MO passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer at his home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, July 26, 2018. He was born on January 17, 1934 to Russell and Marie (Brunelle) Wood in Kansas City, MO.

Gene served his country proudly in the United States Coast Guard. He was united in marriage to Linda Clements on January 13, 1962 in Kansas City, MO.

Gene’s family started Troostwood Garage and Body Shop located in Kansas City, MO in 1917. He took over the family business in 1966 and operated it until his retirement in 1990. He was a prolific car collector and in the mid 1980’s started Adventures in Motoring, a museum which housed close to 100 antique and classic cars. Gene enjoyed boating, wintering in Florida, and working on anything with a motor.

He was a member of the Missouri Yacht Club, Knights of Columbus, Veteran Motor Car Club, VFW, and American Legion. Gene truly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at his vacation homes in Winter Park, CO and Lake of the Ozarks.

Survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Linda Wood of Lee’s Summit, MO; children, Brad Wood (Vicki) of Garden City, MO, Gina Guilfoil (Curt) of Lake Lotawana, MO, Stacy Christie (Steve) of Overland Park, KS, Nick Wood (Abryana) of Loveland, CO; grandchildren, Caitlin (Skip), Amanda, Sabrina, Trevor (Margo), Cameron, Lucas, Lauren, Gracie Mae, Aspen, Azure, Cylas, Azalea; great-grandson, Donovan. He is preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Jack and Ed Wood.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 6:00 p.m., on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at St. Robert Bellarmine Parish, 4313 MO-7 Blue Springs, MO. The family received friends and family from 4-5:30 p.m., with Rosary prayed at 5:30 p.m. at the parish prior to Mass. A private family committal service with full military honors was held at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery.

In honor of his surviving wife, memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association.
