On August 1, 2018, the citizens of Raytown, participating with State Elected Officials, Local Elected Officials, and City Public Works staff, cut the ribbon to officially open the new 83rd Street Bridge.

The $1.5 million bridge, designed by Olsson Associates and constructed by Pyramid Construction, Inc. replaces the 1970 original bridge. Approximately 4,5000 vehicles daily utilize this bridge for their commute east and west across Raytown.

The four-month construction project replaced the existing 5-span bridge with a full new bridge with a slightly shorter two-span (138’) prestressed girder bridge. The City was able to salvage and reuse the existing concrete retaining walls, with some minor repairs. This approach prolonged the useful service life of these walls and saved in construction costs.

The bridge was dedicated by the city as Steve Mock Bridge with Mr. Mock’s family looking on. Mr. Mock was an Alderman and a long-time Raytown businessman and civic supporter.

This project is another sign of progress in Raytown.
