The Kansas City Royals began their longest homestand of the 2018 season this week that will see them host the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals in interleague play. Both teams come to KC for a three-game series then the Royals American league foe Toronto next week for four games.

Monday night the Royals and Cubs played before over 32,000 fans as the series started with an entertaining 3-1 Cubs win. Royals pitcher Jakob Junis pitched five innings and only giving up one run before exiting the game. A 22-minute rain delay helped keep everyone at the stadium later into the night than normal for a low scoring game. Tuesday night saw the Royals provide their fans with another successful T-Shirt Tuesday promotion. The Cubs got on the board first on this night thanks to a two-run triple by third baseman David Bote. Bote wasn’t done as he lined an RBI single to right field in the fifth inning to give the visitors a 4-0 lead. The Royals offense failed to score a run despite six hits and left nine men on base. The Royals lost 5-0 and was their sixth straight loss.

After a day off on Thursday, the Royals entertain their in-state rival St. Louis Cardinals in another version of a I-70 series. The Royals took two of three from the Cardinals at Busch Stadium back in May. The Royals can win the season series from their rivals for the third time in the last five years. Past Royals success against St. Louis has come in even years 2014 and 2016. Each game will provide Royals fans with a fun promotion and yet another reason to head to the ballpark. The highlight is Saturday night’s 1985 World Series Trophy replica giveaway. Game times are at 7:15 Friday, 6:15 Saturday and at 1:15 p.m. on Sunday.

Heading into the weekend the KC Royals are 35-79 six games back of the Chicago White Sox for fourth place in the American League Central Division.
