Lee’s Summit Fire Department

On Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 10:30 p.m., the Lee’s Summit Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 502 SE 2nd Street. The caller to 911 reported fire on the back of the building and spreading to the inside.

When the fire department arrived, smoke and fire was coming from the back of a two-story, four-unit townhome. All of the occupants were reported to be safe outside.

Firefighters attacked the fire on the outside of the structure as crews entered the building to attack the fire that had spread inside and into the attic. An initial search of the entire building confirmed that everyone was out. The gas meters were involved in the fire and Spire Energy was called to the scene to assist with stopping the flow of natural gas. The fire was under control by 11:12 p.m.

The fire appears to have originated on the back of the building and spread to the interior. Units 502-B and 502-C sustained the heaviest damage, however all units were damaged.

The Red Cross was contacted to provide assistance for the thirteen residents displaced by the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Missouri State Fire Marshal’s office.
