The City of Lee’s Summit is pleased to announce David Bushek has joined the City’s Law Department as the chief counsel of economic development and planning, effective Sept. 24.

“We are excited for David to join an experienced team of attorneys within the City of Lee’s Summit’s Law Department. As chief counsel of economic development and planning, David will work in partnership with the City’s Development Services on development and land-use projects and provide legal support to the City’s Planning Commission, Community and Economic Development Committee, Tax Increment Financing Commission and Land Clearance for Redevelopment Authority,” said City Attorney Brian Head.

Bushek has been in practice since 1994 and is well respected throughout the state of Missouri for his expertise and specialization in economic development, planning and zoning, land-use and municipal law. Prior to joining the City of Lee’s Summit, Bushek worked for the law firm of Gilmore & Bell, P.C. for more than 14 years as economic development legal counsel where he advised local governments throughout western, southern and central Missouri on legal issues associated with economic development projects. Prior to that position, Bushek served as deputy city attorney for the City of Lee’s Summit from 2000 to 2004.

“David’s return to the City of Lee’s Summit to enhance the City’s efforts toward economic development is another great indicator that the City of Lee’s Summit means business when it comes to economic development opportunities, whether it is new development or redevelopment,” said Rick McDowell, president of the Lee’s Summit Economic Development Council.

Bushek received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Iowa in 1991, a Juris Doctor from the University of Missouri – Kansas City in 1994, and a master’s degree in urban planning from the University of Kansas in 1996. He is a member of the Missouri and Kansas Bar Associations.
