There are several new faces on the Kansas City Mavericks hockey team this season, but only one has a unique last name giving fans trouble on a proper pronunciation. Defenseman Brett Beauvais is happy to start his career in KC and his last name is pronounced “Boo-vey.”

The first year hockey pro team given nickname is Beauvs. The left hander hails from Summerside, Prince Rhode Island where he has family members viewing his progress on ECHL.tv. Brett’s favorite pro sports team is the NFL’s Pittsburgh Steelers.

No surprise to anyone that Brett’s favorite hockey memory so far was his first pro game which was also the Mavericks first game this season back on Friday, Oct. 12 against Allen. Brett first put on a pair of skates at age four. Now at 5’11” and 190 pounds Brett has grown into a perfect size for a defenseman. Brett is quick to admit his favorite website to visit every day is Instagram.

If not in pro hockey today Brett feels he would still be in school finishing up his degree in Sports Management. Brett’s favorite food is a good steak. He already has a favorite place here KC saying “the Hereford House here in KC is really nice.” Brett’s favorite sports movie is “Happy Gilmore.” Following playing days he wishes to be remembered as a guy who came to work every day and had a good work ethic. Despite the distance between his hometown and Kansas City, Brett’s girlfriend has already made one trip to see him play this season. His parents have plans to come to a game soon into the New Year.

Join Beauvs when he and his new team mates return home on Monday, Dec. 31st for a special New Year’s Eve game against the Wichita Thunder. The fun inside the Silverstein Eye Centers Arena begins when the puck drops at 7:05 p.m.
