Over the weekend of December 1st and 2nd, a loud cheer rang out when the results of the annual Missouri State Cheer competition were announced. The reason for the sudden excitement was how well each of the Lee’s Summit teams performed over the two-day event held at Lindenwood University.

Lee’s Summit coed finished second out of nine teams as only Parkway South did better. Lee’s Summit North competed in the Class 5A small division and finished third out of eight teams that entered. Lee’s Summit West did well in the Class 5A Large division placing fourth out of five teams. There are a total of 138 cheer teams in the state of Missouri.

To get to the state competition the Lee’s Summit cheer squads competed in the Kansas City regionals hosted by Staley High School. At this event Lee’s Summit placed first out of four teams entered in the small coed division. Lee’s Summit North did well placing first out of four teams in the 5A Small division. Lee’s Summit West finished third out of three teams in the Class 5A Large division.

When it was all over all area cheer teams competed hard and had something to cheer about.
