Lee’s Summit West vs Ruskin
Slowly but effectively the Lee’s Summit West Titans girls basketball team showed on Thursday night why they were the number one seed in the District 13 tournament. The Titans advanced to Friday’s district final with a 70-38 victory over fourth seeded Ruskin Eagles.

The game was not as easy as the final score indicates. The first quarter ended with the Titans ahead just 16-12. The lead doubled to eight at the half at 30-22. Then the Titans took over with a solid second half leading by 14 at the end of the third quarter before outscoring the Eagles 22-4 in the fourth. The Titans were led by three players in double figures. Tasia Johnson and Lesley Lovelace had 14 each with Sydnee Kemp behind them at 12. The win improves the Titans season record to 18-6. The top-seeded Titans will put that mark on the line in Friday night’s district championship game against rival Lee’s Summit North with a 7 p.m. tip time.

St. Teresa’s vs Lee’s Summit North
The second semifinal game pitted two teams with below .500 records on the season but that was hard to tell with the way both teams played in the game. A number of three point shots fell, pressure free throws made and a key steal was seen on the floor before the Lee’s Summit North Broncos prevailed 56-54. The win means the Broncos advance to Friday’s district title game and face rival Lee’s Summit West with a 5:30 p.m. start time.

The Lee’s Summit North Broncos, on their home floor, got the scoring started and at the first time out of the game they led by eight at 10-2. The Broncos would increase that to nine, leading 16-7 on their way to a 20-11 lead after one quarter. The St. Teresa’s Stars got hot in the second quarter and tightened the score to two at the half, Broncos led just 27-25. The third quarter saw the Stars take their first lead on a three pointer with 1:31 left. However the quarter would end tied at 38. The fourth quarter went back and forth but the Broncos would untie the game at 51 with a key three making it 54-51. From there they hit two key free throws to win the game 56-54. The Broncos were led in scoring by Anija Frazier’s 25 points, Lauren Draney was in double figures to with 10. The victory improves the third-seeded Broncos season record to 5-19.
