Dear Singing Friends,

The first five seasons of the Summer Singers of Lee’s Summit, especially our gala 2018 performance, have seen great accomplishments. We are planning an even more exciting program of beloved music for our sixth season in 2019.

The Summer Singers of Lee’s Summit is a summer-only community chorus that will begin rehearsals in June to prepare a program of favorites from one of music’s golden eras. We will be singing one of music history’s most beloved works, the Requiem of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The program will also include Mozart’s REGINA CEOELI and AVE VERUM CORPUS. There is no audition required for membership in the chorus. Participation is open to all adults and mature youth.

The original Summer Singers was created in Atlanta in 1990. In twenty-nine seasons that group has grown to as many as 177 singers and has performed great works such as Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, Mozart’s Requiem and many other timeless classics. The Summer Singers of Kansas City followed in 1999 under the umbrella of the Choral Foundation, the Cobb Summer Singers was created in 2006, the Northwest Georgia Summer Singers was added in 2010. The Summer Singers of Lee’s Summit is the fifth summer-chorus created under the sponsorship of the Choral Foundation.

The following YouTube clips will give you a taste of the Summer Singers experience. They are excerpts from the 2012 and 2013 Summer Singers of Kansas City: http://youtu.be/jMhLIiTviMQ http://youtu.be/jMhLIiTviMQ Our YouTube channel also has the full performance of the Summer Singers of Lee’s Summit’s 2015 Faure REQUIEM, our 2016 performance of THE CREATION by Franz Joseph Haydn, and our 2017 performance of Mozart’s CORONATION MASS.

Each of these great groups started out just like our Summer Singers of Lee’s Summit did during the summer of 2014. We look forward to YOU being a part of the fourth season of the Summer Singers of Lee’s Summit. Our planned works of Mozart constitute some of the most glorious music in history. This is an inspiring program that will be enormous fun to sing.

I look forward to the privilege of serving as music director for this year’s Summer Singers of Lee’s Summit. Jennifer Berroth returns as Associate Music Director. Our organist & accompanist will be Dr. Steven McDonald, head of the orchestra department at Park University. Cindy Sheets, a long-time member of the Festival Singers and a Lee’s Summit resident, will be our administrator.

Rehearsals of the Summer Singers of Lee’s Summit will be each Thursday evening, 7:00-9:30, beginning on June 6. They will be held at the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 416 SE Grand Avenue in historic downtown Lee’s Summit.

Tuition for the Summer Singers of Lee’s Summit is $90, or $80 if paid by May 1. Students, and members of ACDA, AGO, MMEA, KMEA and/or NafME will enjoy an any-time tuition of $60. This tuition covers the cost of staff, music scores, royalties, programs, orchestral musicians, promotion and concert production expenses. As a Core Value, the Choral Foundation will not deny participation to anyone because of inability to pay tuition. We do ask, however, that a request for tuition assistance ONLY be made if the need is truly genuine.

You may register by visiting www.FestivalSingers.org. Please register today, and please pass this information on to every singing friend you know. We look forward to seeing YOU and your singing friends in the 2019 Summer Singers of Lee’s Summit!

Soli Deo Gloria,
William O. Baker, DMA, Founder & Music Director of the Choral Foundation
