The last week of the 2018-19 regular season has arrived for all the ECHL teams including the Kansas City Mavericks. This weekend the team will be wrapping up an eight-game road trip with a pair of games in Indiana. Then the Mavericks will head home for their regular season home finale on Tuesday, April 2 against Mountain Division rival Tulsa. With so many games in such a short period of time the team added some depth by signing a pair of rookies prior to the road trip. One rookie is forward Max Kalter who comes to the Mavericks from the University of Connecticut.

Maxy, as his new team mates call him, joined the Mavericks on Wednesday, March 13. March has been a big month for Kalter who turned 23 on March 1. The right hander’s favorite pro sports team is the New England Patriots. Maxy admits he likes watching QB Tom Brady play and he finds the Patriots the “most fun team to watch.” Still rooting him on from home are his dad, mom along with a sister and a brother.

Kalter’s favorite hockey memory so far was playing all four years at what is known as UCONN. Maxy is quick to smile when someone mentions the UConn Huskies to him. In fact Kalter is following the NCAA women’s tournament this month keeping up on the progress made by the UConn women’s basketball team. Maxy says the Huskies have two special players this year, from St. Louis Napheesa Collier and Katie Lou Samuelson.

Kalter first put on a pair of skates at just three years old. Maxy’s favorite website to visit every day is Instagram. If not in pro hockey today Kalter feels he would be finishing his degree at UCONN in Mass Communication. Maxy claims steak and chicken as his favorite foods, while his favorite sports movie is “Slapshot.”

Join Maxy and the rest of the Mavericks when they entertain the Tulsa Oilers on Tues. April 2. The game will be the last chance for Mavs fans to see the team before beginning post season play. The fun begins inside the Silverstein Eye Centers Arena when the puck drops at 7:05 p.m.
